During a season of events and meetings, the GSPG offers the opportunity to attend workshops and seminars, attend complimentary peformances, and perform works-in-progress or completed works.

The Garden State Puppetry Guild welcomes members of all different levels of interest and abilities and encourages you to attend the next meeting.

Up Coming Meeting Dates

2012

Meetings are held 2:00-4:00 at the Library of the Chathams
214 Main St., Chatham, New Jersey.
Meeting times and dates are subject to change.

January 15, 2012   Steve Swank, founding member of the renowned troupe Das Puppenspeil , will share the puppets designed for their production of The Pied Piper of Hamelin. These are beautifully constructed rod puppets that emulate the look of a Breughel painting. With Steve, an experienced teacher and stage technician, we will have the hands-on opportunity to manipulate each kind, and improvise scenes with the villagers, rats and Piper.

February 19, 2012   Steve Abrams, practicing puppeteer and associate editor of The Puppetry Journal, will offer his professional workshop, “Finding a Voice.”  Borrowing concepts from the visual arts, including texture, line and contrast, there are vocal games and exercises that provide a way of thinking about voice performance. Participants will discover a greater capacity for voice creation, and a simple, playful way to develop characterization. The workshop is free to Guild members, with a $2.00 fee for visitors.

March 18, 2012   National Day of Puppetry Planning Session   We’re excited about our theme, “Comedy Club,” and our continuing partnership with Somerset County 4-H.We need all Guild members to help with suggestions on workshops, performances, and publicity! Please join us for a lively working session as we joke our way to a great day of puppetry and outreach.
